Three whirlwind days of the Southeast Europe Peace Summit have come to an end, and it has certainly been worth it!

I find it worthwhile to meet with political and religious leaders to interact, socialize, and to listen to high quality world leaders. I do it on a weekly basis at Embassies, Parliaments, non-Christian sanctuaries, and Christian Churches.

Heads of State

During this Balkan Summit, at least five Presidents and Prime Ministers of the Balkan nations have spoken, and more than 20 former Presidents and Prime Ministers as well.

World Religions

Also, I have gotten to know personally some world leaders of non-Christian religions, which is fascinating, but very helpful as well. This time I have learned a lot from leaders within many faiths.

The highlight for me personally has been my repeated conversations with the world leader of the Bekhtashi Order, a sufist movement within islam, His Holiness Hajji Dede Edmond Bfrahimaj. This warm and wise leader of 150 million Bekthashi´s worldwide, shared many insights with me from his life experience.

I have also enjoyed fellowshipping with several Jews and Christians at the Summit.

UPF

The organization behind this Summit is Universal Peace Federation (UPF), founded by Dr. Sun Myung Moon (1920-2012) and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, in 2005 as a vehicle to bring together political and religious leaders for dialogue and cooperation for world peace.

UPF is not offcially a part of the «Unification Church» (renamed in 1994 the «Family Federation for World Peace and Unification»), but it is clearly guided by the same principles and leadership.

«Father Moon»

Dr. Moon´s fundamental teachings places his movement outside of Biblical Christianity and classic Christian theology, such as his claim 1) that Jesus died unnecessarily on the Cross, 2) that Jesus should have married and established the «True Family», 3) that Jesus called and appointed Dr. Moon to fulfill what Jesus Himself had failed to do, and 4) that salvation comes by adhering to «True Father» (Sun Myung Moon, «Father Moon») and «True Mother» (Hak Ja Han Moon, «Mother Moon») as the «True Parents». Hence, their strong emphasis on «Marriage Blessing» ceremonies.

For classic Christianity, this is false teaching.

I am an Evangelical

Please don´t ridicule and lash out against my friends in UPF. Show them respect.

I am not making up in my mind what I think they believe. A key member of the Moon family has explained the main teachings for me. I said as we concluded our amicable talk that «for classic Christianity, this is false teaching». The Moon representative said about my faith in Christ that it is false. In my experience, it is much better to speak clearly in an atmosphere of mutual honesty and respect. In this way, we can be friends.

The Unique Peace Summit in TiranaJan-Aage with his mom and dad in Buddhist Thailand

I learned from my Pentecostal missionary parents Anne (1922-2007) and Aage Torp (1924-1983) who served in China and Taiwan (mom as single) and Japan and Thailand (together) among Confucianists, Taoists, Shintoists, and Buddhists to respect, honor and cooperate with people of different faiths.

Get me right: Like my parents, I am an Evangelical Pentecostal. I actually believe that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and there is salvation in no other name!

However, God has created human beings equal and with a free will. I have learned to accept and respect that people make different choices than me, even my own kids ❤️

Regardless of faith and persuasion, there is a strong emphasis in God’s Word on the dignity of human beings.

Great opportunity

I find that UPF as an arena for political and religious dialogue gives unique opportunities for what KKN is about; To fight for family and life values in our complex world.
